With compassion, pet euthanasia offers a tender farewell, bringing relief from pain and discomfort.
Discussing euthanasia is never easy. We understand how strong your bond is with your pet and we hope you’ll understand that end-of-life care is a major part of that love you share. Euthanasia is offered to pets when no other medical services can sustainably treat their pain or debilitating condition. It is a humane act and a way to prevent your pet from suffering. To learn more about euthanasia and how we can help you through this difficult time, call us at 613-354-1020.
Our veterinarians will introduce the idea of euthanizing your pet when they are experiencing chronic pain or diagnosed with a terminal disease. There is only so much medication and treatments we can offer to help your pet adjust to their situation. Eventually, their discomfort will affect their mood, appetite and exercise. To avoid watching your pet deteriorate or them experiencing prolonged pain, we will discuss euthanizing your pet. We will give you time to process, decide if your pet is ready and schedule the appointment. We understand this takes time and we will not rush your decision.
First, pet owners will say their goodbyes. You are free to do so in our private euthanasia room or you can do it before your pet enters the area. It is up to you whether you want to be with your pet during this difficult time. Euthanasia involves a high dose injection of seizure medication. This will cause their heart and other organs to stop working. It is quick and painless, causing them to peacefully lose consciousness.
Before your pet is euthanized, it’s important to create a plan on how to handle their body. Pet parents can bury their pet in a pet cemetery or have them cremated. You’re welcome to arrange a memorial to celebrate your pet’s life and allow others to remember your pet fondly. We can also refer you to other service providers in the area who can help you organize all of these matters, if you prefer.
